Early Coaching Foundations
Bob Chesney began his head‑coaching career in 2010 at Division III Salve Regina.
Before that, Chesney served as an assistant at several institutions. He was on the coaching staff at Johns Hopkins from 2005 to 2009, at King’s College in 2003‑04, at Delaware Valley College in 2002, and at Norwich University in 2000‑01.
Unconventional Background
Chesney’s path to coaching was shaped by a variety of work experiences outside of football. He mined coal in his hometown, worked as a bartender behind a Baltimore bar serving Red Bull and vodka, and held every on‑field coaching role from strength coach to special teams coach.
Arrival at UCLA and First Victory
Chesney was hired as the head coach of the UCLA Bruins in 2026.
